Omega on the Red Carpet: 3 Watches Seen at the 97th Academy Awards

The Oscars have always been more than a celebration of cinema. For watch enthusiasts, the red carpet at the Academy Awards has become an unofficial showcase of horological taste, where actors reveal their personal style through the watches they choose to wear.

At the 97th Academy Awards in 2025, several stars appeared wearing timepieces from Omega — ranging from classic dress watches to high-jewellery interpretations of iconic sports models. The selection perfectly illustrated the versatility of the brand, as well as its long-standing relationship with cinema.

Below is a closer look at some of the most notable Omega watches spotted on actors that evening — and the cinematic connections behind those models.

Colman Domingo — Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch in Canopus Gold and diamonds

One of the most striking watches of the evening appeared on the wrist of actor Colman Domingo, who wore a diamond-set version of the Speedmaster Moonwatch crafted in white Canopus Gold. The watch combines the technical heritage of the Moonwatch with high-jewellery detailing, including a bezel set with baguette-cut diamonds.

The Omega Speedmaster is arguably one of the most culturally significant watches ever made. Introduced in 1957, it became famous as the first watch worn on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission, giving it the nickname “Moonwatch.”

Beyond space exploration, the Speedmaster has also appeared in film culture. Actor Tom Hanks wore the model while portraying astronaut Jim Lovell in the movie Apollo 13, further cementing its connection with cinematic storytelling.

Robert Downey Jr. — Seamaster Aqua Terra in Sedna Gold

Presenter Robert Downey Jr. chose a far more flamboyant piece: a Seamaster Aqua Terra in 18K Sedna Gold, featuring a diamond-paved bezel and ruby hour markers.

The Aqua Terra line is known for combining the elegance of a dress watch with the robustness of a sports model. Its maritime DNA links it to the broader Omega Seamaster family, one of the longest-running collections in the brand’s catalogue.

If one Omega collection is inseparable from cinema, it is the Seamaster (obviously in other design forms). The watch became globally famous after being adopted by the character James Bond starting in GoldenEye (1995), wearing an Omega 2541.80 . In that film, Bond’s Seamaster even functioned as a spy gadget, featuring a laser cutter and detonator.

Since then, different Seamaster models have appeared in multiple Bond films, turning the watch into one of the most recognizable cinematic timepieces in modern pop culture (check the story about the first Automatic Omega worn by James Bond).

Kieran Culkin — De Ville Trésor

Actor Kieran Culkin opted for a more understated choice: the Omega De Ville Trésor 40 mm in Sedna Gold, a minimalist dress watch with a slim case and classic dial layout.

The De Ville collection is Omega’s most classically elegant line, originally derived from the brand’s mid-century dress watches.

While less associated with blockbuster franchises than the Seamaster or Speedmaster, De Ville models frequently appear in television and film as refined dress watches suited to sophisticated characters. Variations of the De Ville have been worn by actors at major public appearances and film promotions, reinforcing the collection’s image as a modern interpretation of traditional Swiss elegance.
